SAMPLE LETTER TO LEGISLATOR

Dear Legislator(s):

I am a member of the Brotherhood of Railroad Signalmen with South Florida Commuter Rail.

Signalmen install, test, and maintain the train signal systems and crossing warning systems that keep daily commuters and the traveling public safe.

I and many others face a significant challenge to our livelihood because of a planned expansion of commuter railway over CSX track near Orlando, Florida (CF Rail). CSX and FDOT currently plan signal work on this line to be accomplished without BRS Signalmen. According to the CF Rail website, the state plans to eventually expand commuter rail over most of CSX track in the state of Florida.

BRS Signalmen have made South Florida Commuter Rail the safest in the country. Giving the installation of vital safety systems to the lowest bidder is not the plan that we as professional railroad employees support. BRS members not only can do the work, but they have the experience and expertise. Florida residents deserve nothing less than the safest commuter rail in the nation.

I need your help in convincing CSX and FDOT that eliminating our jobs to expand commuter rail service is wrong.
