Remember October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month!

This month is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which is an annual campaign to increase the awareness of the disease.  While most people are aware of breast cancer, many forget to take the steps to have a plan to detect the disease in its early stages and encourage others to do the same.

7th Annual Soccer Night with the Chicago Fire

Once again, our Annual Soccer Event proved to be yet another great success. Although the event was threatened by bad weather, the rain held off enough to allow for a fun-filled night. This was our 7th annual event at Toyota Park, and one of our most successful one yet. Members and their families came from as far as Waukegan, IL to enjoy the game and participate in the activities.

The El Paso Police Department held a promotion ceremony on Monday, September 22, 2014 in the Chief’s Large Conference Room at Police Headquarters.  Although smaller than the last promotion ceremony held in June, those promoted, their family members, loved ones and co-workers were equally excited and in a celebratory mood.

On Thursday September 25th during lunch, members from all the different Trade Unions employed at Vigor Industrial lead by the Puget Sound Metal Trades took part in some Concerted Activity by picketing in front of all Vigor Industrial locations, which includes Tacoma and Portland. This was in response to Vigor's illegal decision to implement a policy without bargaining with the Unions.

September 30, 2014 -- This month started off with the Southwest Airlines (SWA) Facility Maintenance Technician (FMT) negotiations in Dallas, Texas. I was able to attend this session and appreciate all of the work the committees have done in these negotiations. During the following FMT session later in the month, the Company presented our Committee with a bundled proposal that addressed multiple articles; our Committee is crafting a comprehensive response to their proposal. Aircraft Maintenance Technician (AMT) negotiations also continued this month and the negotiation updates (video and written) for all sessions have been posted to the AMFA National Website.

Brother Dwayne Rowley was born on November 4, 1928.  On Thursday September 25, 2014 he passed away at his home at the age of 86.  Brother Rowley was a member in good standing with local 296 for 48 years as a Building Trades Journeyman Steamfitter. During those 48 years brother Rowley has worked doing many jobs for many contractors.

It’s that time of year again when we get to BePINK. The BePink program will run from October 01-31. Approved shirts, blouses, scarfs, ties and aprons may be worn during this period only.
