  • ATDA Ratifies the National Mediated Collective Bargaining Agreement
    Posted On: Nov 27, 2017

Nearly two-thirds of American Train Dispatchers Association members from the Belt Railway Company of Chicago, BNSF Railway, Conrail, CSXT, Indiana Harbor Belt, Kansas City Southern, Norfolk Southern, and Wisconsin Central voted for ratification of the national mediated collective bargaining agreement negotiated by the Coordinated Bargaining Group. The Coordinated Bargaining Group is comprised of six unions: the American Train Dispatchers Association; the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen (a Division of the Rail Conference of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters); the Brotherhood of Railroad Signalmen; the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers, Iron Ship Builders, Blacksmiths, Forgers, and Helpers; the National Conference of Firemen and Oilers / SEIU; and the Transportation Division of the International Association of Sheet Metal, Air, Rail and Transportation Workers. Collectively, the CBG unions represent more than 85,000 railroad workers covered by the various organizations’ national agreements.

The ATDA’s bargaining team, President Leo McCann, Secretary-Treasurer Ed Dowell and Vice President Rory Broyles, reached a tentative agreement with the Nation’s Freight Rail  Carriers on October 6, 2017 following over two and one half years of bargaining. The final tally showed over 62% of the membership voted in favor of ratification. This Agreement provides 9.84% of compounded general wage increases over an 18 month period and retroactive general wage increases back to July 1, 2016.  Additionally, all benefits presently existing under the current Health and Welfare Plan remain unchanged and the employees’ current monthly premium cost of $228.89 is frozen and can only be increased at the conclusion of the next round of bargaining.
