The Brotherhood of Railroad Signalmen (BRS) welcomes the signing of the Northern Illinois Transit Authority Act by Governor Pritzker, a significant step forward for public transit safety, reliability, and long-term stability across Illinois.
This legislation helps avert deep service cuts and layoffs, strengthens oversight of CTA, Metra, and Pace, and provides sustained investment in transit infrastructure without imposing new statewide taxes. It also reinforces the essential role of skilled union labor in maintaining safe and dependable rail and transit systems.
This outcome was made possible in part, by BRS members who took the time to engage with their elected officials. Their voices ensured lawmakers heard firsthand from the workers who build, maintain, and protect the transportation systems millions rely on every day.
The BRS thanks our members for their engagement and solidarity and remains committed to advocating for policies that prioritize safety, workers, and the public.
